The Toxic Truth That Will Cause Your Next Beauty Breakup

If you are following Odacité you know how passionate we are about health and its connection with making sure your beauty products are free of toxins.
Yet I often hear some of my clients tell me "well switching to green products is not going to make such a difference..." Well let me share with you this recent study that shows what a dramatic improvement you can see after just a few days of switching to green beauty.

Before I get into the study, did you know that government regulations allow just about any ingredient to be used in the manufacturing of products that we use daily on our skin, nails and hair? Even though the FDA has a set of regulations and standards regarding these products, many harmful and toxic chemicals still manage to slip through the cracks. The worst part is that some of the more harmful ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate and DMDM Hydantoin to name a few, are found in most traditional skincare products (face washes, lotions, sunscreen, etc)  and have been linked to health issues such as cancer, hormonal disruption, and reproductive problems.

If that still doesn’t convince you to breakup with some of your most toxic beauty products maybe this study will. Keep reading to find out what happened with a hundred teen girls swapped their beauty products with ones free of chemicals such as phthalates, parabens triclosan and oxybenzone.

UC Berkeley, Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas and a team of youth researchers led a collaborative study that yielded results so compelling and interesting on a scientific level. Researchers provided teen study participants with personal care products free of chemicals such as pththalates, parabens, triclosan and oxybenzone.

According to the study, after only three days the analysis of urine samples showed a significant drop in all of the levels of these chemicals in the body, including a decrease of 27 percent in phthalate, commonly used in fragrances, a 45 percent decrease in parabens, used as preservatives in cosmetics, and a 36 percent decrease in triclosan, found in antibacterial soaps and some brands of toothpaste, and benzophenone-3 (BP-3), found in some sunscreens under the name oxybenzone.

What was even more compelling was that after the study was complete, the high school students who helped lead it continued to create awareness about the chemicals found in everyday products, so that the youth can make more conscious decisions about what they are using.

Throwing away even your most trusted lotions, soaps, and oils you swore by for years can be frightening and certainly even a little pricey if you are replacing more than just a few. Even taking simple steps such as choosing products with fewer chemicals can make a difference.
