Meet Kimberly. She is a Kansas City blogger and freelance journalist who writes about natural beauty and skincare.
What inspired us the most about Kim was her honest and thorough product reviews on her green beauty blog, kimberlyloc.com. It really hits home for us when we discover a blogger that is just as passionate about growing the world of green beauty as we are.
We had the lovely opportunity to chat with Kim and ask her about her clean beauty journey, why she blogs and what her ultimate beauty tip is.
Tell Odacité beauty lovers a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to become a green beauty blogger?
My name is Kim. I'm a 31-year-old blogger in Kansas City who's been part of the green beauty movement for a decade.
When I switched career paths (from magazine publishing to branded content strategy), I knew I wanted to maintain a voice within the editorial community — but on one single topic that truly excited me. kimberlyloc.com was born in 2010 and has been my product experimentation diary that has seen a world of change in this exciting, growing industry.
I love sharing very candid product experiences with other beauty enthusiasts; knowing that I've helped someone wade through product claims and hype keeps me blogging regularly.
How did going green impact your life? What was the most challenging about making the switch?
My clean beauty journey started in 2007, and I am still on this journey today. In my early 20s, when I first made the switch, it was all about completely resetting and trying to be as "pure" as possible with my personal care choices.
Now that I'm in my early 30s, I've evolved my own standards. Instead of striving for perfection and "purity" in my product choices, I instead strive for quality, consistency and efficacy. Finding what works for me and deciding what my standards are is a very personal yet continuously evolving series of choices. That remains the biggest challenge — especially as a blogger whose choices and standards are on display to a larger community to critique.
What is the mission of your blog and what message do you want to send to your followers?
I wrote my formal mission statement a few years ago, and it comes down to this: kimberlyloc.com guides you through the growing world of green beauty by providing honest and thorough product reviews.
That means that I focus on telling you everything I can about the things I've tried and letting YOU take from those ramblings what you will. Everyone has their own standards around ingredients, pricing, packaging and product experiences. It's my hope that by hearing about my personal product experiences, you're more prepared to make smart decisions about how you'll spend your money.
If there was one beauty tip you could give what would it be?
In your quest to find the best products for your beauty routine, do your best to maintain consistency and be very careful about when and how you introduce new products to your skin.
Trust me, I have made my face VERY angry over the years when NOT following this beauty tip!
When you are not blogging or researching, what could we find you doing :)
I love going on bike trips with my boyfriend (looking to complete a 100-mile trip soon!), practicing yoga, trying different fitness classes, cuddling with my Siamese cat, dining at new restaurants in Kansas City and scheming up travel plans with my friends and my beau.
Last but not least, could you tell our readers what your all-time favorite Odacité product is and how you use it in your skincare regime.
The Black Cumin + Cajeput Serum Concentrate is an absolute winner. I like to mix this concentrated serum into my regular nighttime moisturizer or dab it on as a spot treatment for pesky pimples. If my skin is especially fussy, this bottle of magic is the perfect, no-BS, all-over treatment. I like that it's tough on breakouts yet gentle on my skin. No irritation and no dryness. It's my secret weapon against acne!
