JANUARY/FEBRUARY :

FILTER YOUR WATER

Drinking water is not only good for your health but it is also the key to flawless skin. There are two easy steps to keep you hydrated while reducing your exposure to common drinking water pollutants.

1) Decide On A Filter : An effective yet reasonably priced filter you can get is a carbon filter. If you want to remove as many contaminants as possible then opt for reverse osmosis system. If water hardness is an issue, use an ion exchange filter to soften it. Added bonus, filtering your water is also a great way to reduce plastic waste. Bottled water produces 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year.

2) Find what style of water filter works best in your household : there are four popular filter styles to choose from each with pros and cons.

    Pitcher/Large Dispenser

Pros : Inexpensive | No installation required | Various sizes and styles to choose from

Cons : The cost of replacing the filters regularly may add up to as much as a faucet, countertop or under-sink filter | slow filtering

    On-Counter

Pros : Easy switch between filtered and unfiltered water | Requires few filter changes | Ideal for filtering drinking and cooking water

Cons : Requires Installation | Can be expensive

    Faucet Mounted

Pros : Relatively inexpensive | Easy to Install | Easy to switch between filtered and unfiltered water Filtration can fill cooking pots fast enough

Cons : Does not work with all faucet styles | May slow down faucet flow rate | Filter must be changed frequently

    Whole House

Pros : Filters all water (kitchen, bathroom, shower)

Cons : Number of contaminants removed from water vary by the filtration system | Some remove only sediment and rust while others remove volatile organic compounds

Stay tuned next month when we reveal the second step in our 2017 guide toward healthy living.
